Disappointment of WHITE RABBIT
Friday, October 10, 2008

After much leaves, branches, roots and stones we fnally get to the super "ulu" THE WHITE RABBIT restaurant at 39C Harding Road. We took a 1 hour plus bus and walk through a desserted path way and managed to find the place. OMG. Without car, to go there is really very very very inconvenient. The church refurnished restaurant has a nice white ambience but kuku disagree with it. She thinks is not peaceful and serene enough to sit in and enjoy a cup of coffee. The walls are dirtied and not painted. I guess the owner wants some "leftover" of the previous church to show some history and vintage element in the decor. With high roof lighting and the natural light from the HOT sun outside, it makes the whole place very very good to take photo.

The interior set up of the tables and plants. Didnt get the service staff and we drank $10 still water. Should have ask for Tap water instead. We ordered set lunch costing $30 ++each and a dessert.

This is spinach salad Kuku ordered. As a appetizer, the portion is TOO BIG, again TOO BIG. It looks like a MAIN COURSE to me- covering the white spaces of the entire plate. Cannot believe it. Such good restaurant cannot handle portioning and what is the problem. Although we both agreed that we like the dressing very much but we can only finish half of the portion. WAW!

Mine wasnt spared. It was nice-smoked salmon (salty), green apple (sour), walnuts (roasted) and a unknown thread of vege or fruit like. the combination taste good but again the portion too big till you sick of the dish. Sad case!

For Main course, kuku ordered a lamb. It looks exactly ok but the taste of the lamb "yang sao" was too strong to continue to eat. She finished half only.

I ordered a fish named Halibut which really dont know what the hell is that. The service staff told me is a fish ( what a answer?) i expect more than that. The fish is too salty despite the "clean and clear" appearance it has...plus no carbo...the main course isnt filling!

Black forest cake deconstructed.
After failing Kuku for the first 2 courses, she gave up on desserts. Hence we shared the dessert-Black forest cake deconstructed. As the name suggests, this dessert separated the individual part of the cake. Berries, Cream, Chocolate Ice-cream and of course the cake. Then i think you have to reconstruct the cake yourself and put it in your palate. Interesting idea i thought. So the dessert still make some sense and worth the effort and expectation.

Conclusion, please eat the raisn bun. It tastes fantastic. And Kuku asked me to wrote here that the restaurant is "underwhelmed". It failed my expectation of a good restaurant. Bill was $98.80.
